Il est tres froid a Angers en l'hiver

It's very cold in Angers in the winter
this was on my weather app today

It's my second full day here.
I'm super tired, I already took a nap, and I'm going to bed right after I write this [it's 10:30]!

View from my room:
We live on the 10th (11th) floor of an apartment building across the street from the social security building, this is just past that. It's about a 20 minute walk to school which isn't bad at all!

DAY 1:
We had orientation at UCO (Universite Catholique de L'Ouest) which is the university we attend, although our program is called CIDEF.
We had the meeting with all of the AHA (my program I came over with).
There are 8 kids in AHA and it appears around 200 in CIDEF.
We had a meeting that went over our shedules and some fun things in our packet our director, Sue, gave us.

After lunch on campus, we went on a walking tour of Angers!

We walked down the most popular bar street and to the main street, Boulevard Foch.

We walked to the English library, where we all get free library cards while we're here.
We can also volunteer there with kids and other people learning English!

Then we went to Phone House, and got our phones for 14 euros!
The look like this:
[tiny Nokia phone and apartment keys!]

We walked by the Cathedral Saint Maurice:

Then, since it's absolutely freezing here [litereally and figuratively] we went to the cafe and the Musee Beaux-Arts and had Vin Chaud (hot wine, or mulled wine)!
Then I went home, and Mme Moulin had made endive wrapped in ham with cheese, soup, cheese and rice pudding-type dessert.

Day 2:

Today, we met at the school at 9:30 for our placement test.
Which decides which level out of the 22 levels to put us into.
Not only is it based on the test, but we are compared to eachother to see which levels we should be in.
There was oral comprehension, which no one understood, then reading comprehension, and grammar.

After the test, the AHA kids went to the AHA office and hung out away from the cold, and we were late meeting up with all of the CIDEF kids to go to lunch at the RestoU (restaurant for the UCO and Universite d'Angers students).
We eventually caught up with them, and the food was pretty good. It's only 3.05 euros, so it's a nice cheap option for the students.

After lunch, AHA and the Notre Dame kids split off from the CIDEF group to go to the chateau, because we had done the tour of the city already.

le chateau!
the door way between the turrets was the "country gate" since the city around Angers was all country when it was built.
The moat has always been dry. At one time it held exotic animals, such as zebras!

the drawbridge!

The other side of the drawbridge.

The next three pictures are of the Apocalypse tapestry, which is the longest tapestry, although parts of it are missing.

the chapel

the only stained glass with figures in the chapel
there was a cool chapel to the side of the main room in the chapel and this was on the floor.
one of the turrets had ivy all over it!
etchings on the wall of the chapel

Since it was so cold again, we went back the the cafe at the Musee Beaux-Art and had drinks. I had chocolat chaud this time! and Sue ordered us macarons for us to try! so cute.

After, two girls and I went to H&M. Then we went home.

Mme Moulin made crepes this morning! I ate 6! I kept telling her I was full, but apparently she didn't believe me! Super delish!

Tomorrow we have orientation in the morning and then a free afternoon.
All the AHA girls ar going shopping!

France has government required sales from January through mid February.
Everything's about 75% off at this point!
